Young son last week got mad at me because he did something I believe is wrong. He said it wasen`t wrong, I just think it is because of the Bible says it`s wrong and he doesn`t believe the Bible is anything but a book, not God`s word. I said, ok, but even people who are not religious believe it is wrong and he said why? WHO TOLD THEM IT WAS WRONG? Well that got me to thinking, I know why I believe things are right and wrong, but why do other people believe things are right or not? and if a thing is right or wrong, then how was it decided and why do people get upset if you don`t believe like they do if it is all up to the individual to decide what they believe?
Lets take the example of abortion since it is a hot topic. Some believe that abortion is murder and only if the life of the mother is in jeopardy then it is wrong to abort a baby. Some believe that a women has the right to decide what she does with he body and the baby isn`t a baby until it is born so it has no rights. So what makes one side right and one side wrong if we have the right to decide for ourselves what is right or wrong. Why do we get so upset when one group thinks differently then we do if it is all subjective? This not a abortion debate I just used it as one example, it could be smoking pot, stealing, sleep with someone before marriage, adultery, cussing, lying, stealing, hating, drinking, etc...
Let me hear your points of view, because I am curious. If the government makes the rules, where do they get their belief that something is right or wrong? Parents were you brainwashed from birth like my son thinks? Where did our four fathers get their laws from when they wrote the constitution?
I little light thought for this Monday afternoon.
